Inside the course
What you work on
01
Control and IFR navigation
Develop instrument aircraft control, monitoring and navigation skills for your intended private IFR operations.
02
Prepare for your trips
Connect flight preparation, weather assessment and practical decisions with the private flights you want to make.
03
Plan the endorsements you need
Discuss additional departure, approach and night privileges relevant to your plans. The training scope is agreed before booking; this page does not promise every endorsement is available.
What this prepares you for
After the applicable theory, experience, training and flight test requirements, PIFR permits private IFR within Australian territory in eligible single-pilot aircraft, within the scope of the rating and endorsements held. Instrument approaches and night privileges are not automatically included; flight review and recency requirements continue to apply.
How training is planned
A starting point, a practical plan, and regular conversations about your progress.
- 1
Discuss the private flights you intend to undertake and present your licence and training history for review.
- 2
Confirm eligibility and the separate PIFR theory pathway with our team.
- 3
Agree which privileges and endorsements are being sought before defining the practical training scope.
- 4
Confirm hours, fees, aircraft arrangements and progress reviews for that plan before scheduling lessons.
Costs and next steps
PIFR hours and fees depend on the training and endorsements being discussed. Ask our team for the specific inclusions and preparation needed for your plan. Do not assume an advertised aircraft hourly rate includes a complete rating or every endorsement.
View current rates and packagesChoose the instrument pathway deliberately
Compare PIFR with the Instrument Rating before deciding. The relevant question is which operations and preparation fit your flying goal, not which title sounds more advanced.
Explore the Instrument Rating pathwayPIFR is separate from the Instrument Rating and is not a substitute for commercial IFR. Endorsement scope, weather minima, aircraft limitations, review and recency requirements apply.
Your questions, answered
Is PIFR the same as an Instrument Rating?
No. It is a separate private instrument pathway. Theory, privileges and endorsement planning should be discussed specifically for PIFR.
Are approaches and night IFR automatically included?
No. Additional private instrument endorsements govern those privileges. We discuss your intended operations, the endorsements needed and our available training scope before agreeing a plan.
Can I see a fixed course price?
Contact us with your licence, experience and intended flying. Hours, fees and inclusions need to be confirmed for that scope rather than presented as one standard package.
