Who this pathway suits

PPL suits pilots who want to plan private cross-country flights and develop beyond local flying. You may be continuing from RPL, returning to training or starting with a longer-term private flying goal. We review what you have already completed before proposing a pathway.

Inside the course

What you work on

01

Cross-country navigation

Bring route planning and navigation together, preparing for flights that take you beyond familiar local training areas.

02

Weather and decisions

Work on interpreting conditions, considering alternatives and making practical go/no-go decisions for the flight you intend to undertake.

03

Planning and preparation

Develop flight-planning habits, connect the theory with navigation exercises, and prepare for PPL theory and flight assessment.

How training is planned

A starting point, a practical plan, and regular conversations about your progress.

  1. 1

Tell us about your intended private flying and share your RPL, logbook or other prior-training records for review.

  2. 2

Discuss the medical, English, theory and experience requirements relevant to your starting point.

  3. 3

Plan ground preparation, flight lessons and navigation training around the skills and experience you still need.

  4. 4

Review progress with your instructor and adjust the preparation needed before the PPL flight test.

Costs and next steps

PPL training costs depend on the experience you bring and the training still required. Review current aircraft and training rates on Pricing, then ask our team for a plan that reflects your records and goals. Any package allowance does not guarantee course completion, and additional training is charged separately.

RPL or PPL?

If your immediate goal is a first licence and local flying, explore RPL. If your focus is navigation and private cross-country flying, discuss PPL and how previous RPL or other training can fit into your plan.

PPL privileges depend on your licence, ratings, endorsements, aircraft and operating conditions. It is not unrestricted permission to fly any aircraft or in any weather. Discuss the requirements for your intended flights with our team.

Your questions, answered

Do I need an RPL before discussing PPL?

You can discuss your private flying goal at any stage. Our team will review your starting experience and explain an appropriate pathway, including whether RPL is a useful first milestone for you.

Does my previous training count?

Bring your licence and training records so our team can assess your experience. We will explain what can be recognised and what further training is needed rather than assume a standard plan applies to everyone.

Can I get a fixed completion date?

A realistic plan depends on progress, training frequency, weather and availability. We review these with you throughout training; neither a package nor a proposed schedule guarantees licence completion.
