Who this pathway suits

For commercial pilots interested in teaching and developing the skills to support another person's learning. This describes the intended audience, not a blanket CPL-only entry rule: our team reviews your qualifications and experience against the applicable rating and endorsement pathway.

Inside the course

What you work on

01

Understand how students learn

Study instructional principles and methods, then prepare student-centred lesson plans and ground briefings with a clear learning goal.

02

Explain and demonstrate

Practise clear explanations and flight demonstrations. Learn to recognise student errors and adapt your instruction rather than simply show your own handling skills.

03

Review progress and debrief

Observe learning, assess progress and give constructive debriefs that help a student understand what to practise next.

What this prepares you for

A Flight Instructor Rating with at least one training endorsement authorises the instruction covered by those privileges. Applicants must meet the applicable experience, medical, instructional theory, PIRC and flight test requirements for the rating and relevant endorsement. Initial privileges and supervision depend on the endorsement held.

Build on your flying background

If you are still working towards commercial flying qualifications, review that pathway first. Instrument and multi-engine training address different skills and are not automatically included in instructor training.

Review Commercial Pilot Licence training

Instruction is limited to the rating and training endorsements held, with applicable supervision. No Grade 3 pathway, full set of endorsements or employment outcome is promised here; confirm the school's available scope.

Your questions, answered

Start with a conversation. Our team needs to review your qualifications and experience and confirm the appropriate entry pathway before scheduling training.

What teaching skills are covered?

The outline covers instructional principles, student-centred lesson planning, briefings, demonstrations, recognising errors, progress assessment and debriefs. Confirm the relevant training endorsement and detailed delivery scope with our team.
